Tia Pinkson-Burke (she/her) is the licensed clinical social worker behind Embodyed Therapy. She practices in Philadelphia, PA.
Tia utilizes an eclectic, psychodynamic, and relational approach while employing a strong racial justice, feminist, and queer theory lens. Her practice is informed by fat liberation, body-neutrality, Health At Every Size, sex-positivity, anti-capitalism, intersectional feminism, and social justice perspectives. She believes that one's past informs how they interact with and experience the world and healing takes place as one fosters empathy and consideration for their past and present selves. Tia believes the therapeutic relationship allows for gaining deeper perspective and understanding of oneself, which creates an environment for healing. She strives to build genuine and earnest rapport with her clients by being deeply nonjudgmental and always centering kindness and respect.
Her specialties include: sexuality/gender identity development, LGBTQIAA+ issues, emerging adulthood/young adults, trauma (PTSD/C-PTSD), survivors of sexual violence and IPV, kink/BDSM, non-traditional relationship and family structures, family of origin problems, chronic health and pain (including HIV+), sex work(ers), radical fat liberation, and body acceptance.
In her work, Tia relies on authentic relationship building, humor, genuine curiosity and warmth towards her clients, deep empathy, and gentle honesty. She strives to hold her clients' humanity while also challenging oppressive beliefs and behaviors.
